You! The DNA Study Group serves all skill levels, and you can attend whichever classes you like. No prior experience is necessary for the Core Concepts classes, which cover key genetic genealogy principles (great review for everyone else, too). More-advanced DNA sessions cover a wide range of topics, to apply to a wide range of needs. We even have sessions that teach traditional genealogy research skills (the ones needed most in genetic genealogy).

When does the DNA Study Group meet and what topics will be covered?

Sessions are held twice per month, on first and third Wednesdays (with exception of January 1 shifting to January 8). Attend as many as you like! If you can attend live, that’s great: if not, don’t worry, because after each session, the recording will be made available for two months.

See the schedule below. Note the description and skill level for each Study Session. You may decide to stick to your current skill level, go back and review more basic concepts, or sit in on a more advanced class to learn what’s possible.

How is the DNA Study Group different from the DNA Skills Workshop?

The Study Group is a more casual but consistent monthly learning experience for a variety of skill levels. It supports and fosters your DNA learning so you can make steady progress at your own desired pace. To that end, we are focusing on the first two steps in our unique SPIN learning process: lots of Study and a little bit of hands-on Practice.

Our Study Sessions will follow the Tell, Show, Do, Review pattern. We will Tell you what it is you’re going to learn, we will Show you how to do it, then you will get time to Do it yourself while our coach is right there to answer any questions. Then we will review all the things that you’ve learned so that you’re prepared to take your new knowledge into your own research. With each session, you'll get a handout packed with summaries, suggestions for practicing what you learned, and additional resources.

How do I know the DNA Study Group will work for me?

As you fully participate, we guarantee that you’ll make real, lasting, confident progress in your genetic genealogy education! If you don’t, you may cancel anytime. You will be charged for the month you cancel, and you will lose access to all recorded and live classes. If you paid up front, we will refund the prorated amount, less a $15.00 processing fee (sorry, that’s how much it costs us).

What technical requirements are necessary?

The DNA Study Group takes place entirely online. You’ll need a reliable internet connection for streaming the live video sessions. You’ll also need access to DNA test results, which are not included with the DNA Study Group.
